The Boundless Flow of Nature

This deck park project seeks to reconnect Seongsu with the Han River and, more broadly, to enhance urban connectivity across various parts of Seoul. In particular, the aging low-rise residential area in Seongsu is being redeveloped into a high-rise housing complex, with its lower levels transformed into a cultural-commercial community space. This space will be seamlessly linked to the deck park via a multi-level deck system, fostering an organic integration of city and landscape.

The Han River is a vital natural axis of Seoul, deeply interwoven with the Seongsu district. However, the elevated expressway running along the river’s edge has long disrupted this relationship, creating both physical and visual barriers between the city and the waterfront.

The horizontal plane of the park expresses a visual sense of infinity, evoking the horizon. Circulation paths flow gently through the site, guided by natural topographic curves that harmonize the urban fabric with the riverside. This continuous spatial experience allows users to traverse the previously divided territory in a relaxed and intuitive way, while offering layered views of both the near and distant Han River landscape.
